What do you feel grateful for in this moment?

I know we are all living in uncertain times. During these crazy days, emotions may feel like a rollercoaster. But we have the choice to stay with the heavy emotions or to look around and see the many ways in which our lives are blessed.

I practice gratitude daily.

I practice gratitude daily because it helps me shift my focus and energy so I feel more in tune and aligned with my true self. I also feel when I do this, I am in some way positively affecting the Universe. My mantra is—I am grateful for all of the blessings and all of the lessons in my life because I learn from them both. I send loving-kindness to all people especially those who have far less than I. I especially like this practice when I feel I am struggling with someone. I send them love, peace and acceptance. I feel grateful for the experience they are in my life because in some way, they are making me a better person.

The practice of gratitude shifts your focus, your energy, your outlook and puts you in alignment with your true self and all you desire. You cannot feel angry and grateful in the same moment. It helps take you out of feeling sad, angry, anxious and stressed and instead guides you to into feelings of calm, peace, acceptance and love.

This shift not only affects the energy within you but has affects on others around you as well. When you are standing in light others will notice and be drawn to you. Practicing gratitude has the potential to effect many areas of your life.

  1. You may have increased sleep

  2. You may have increased energy

  3. You may have increased self-esteem

  4. You may have better friendships

  5. You may become more social

  6. You are more likely to develop deeper and more meaningful relationships

  7. You may become kinder and more empathetic

  8. You may notice increased relaxation

  9. You may notice increased happiness and joy

  10. You may experience increased resilience

  11. You may become more goal oriented.

  12. You may attain more success

Try this simple practice.

Next time you feel upset, intentionally shift your focus to what you are grateful for. Watch as the anger dissipates.

  • When you wake up, list 3 things to be grateful for as soon as you open your eyes.

    • I feel grateful I opened my eyes.

    • I feel grateful there is a cozy blanket keeping me warm.

    • I feel grateful I am looking out my window and see beautiful trees.

  • In the middle of the day, list 3 things to be grateful for.

    • I feel grateful I have a job.

    • I feel grateful I am drinking this coffee/tea.

    • I feel grateful I chatted with my co-worker or friend.

  • Before bed, list 3 things to be grateful for.

    • I feel grateful I said “I love you” to my daughter

    • I feel grateful I have friends and family who love me.

    • I feel grateful I relaxed in my garden for 30 minutes.

WOW! Just with this simple exercise you already have 9 things in one day to be grateful for. It only takes 15 seconds each time. Imagine if you could try this every hour the attitude and energy shifts that would happen. Try saying it out loud or maybe keep a journal. Maybe try for 30 days and watch a gentle shift happen.

Today I am grateful for

  • The warm cup of tea in the morning that eases me into my day

  • The roof over my head that protects me and keeps me safe and warm

  • The friends and family who love me, support me and encourage me

  • Today I am grateful for life, all of it, the lessons and the blessings..I learn from it all.

What’s Next?

  • Grab a journal or a notebook and your favorite writing utensil.

  • Take on a mini-gratitude challenge. Maybe decide on 1 week, 2 weeks, or even 30 day challenge.

  • Top of the page write your intention. “I intend to practice gratitude for ______weeks/days.

  • Using a scale of 1-10 (1 being low energy and 10 being highest energy), how committed to this are you?

  • Use the same scale and write how grateful you feel today, in this moment. This will be important because you will use the same scale again at the end of whatever time allotment you chose.

  • Now begin your gratitude!!

    • What are you grateful for today?

    • How do you practice gratitude?
